The second greatest virtue

Most of us spend our lives seeking out external things.  Spouses to marry, material possessions, social status, seem to be taking up most of our interests.  In our current environment, money is the key to most (if not all) of these things.  Most give little thought to the internal things.  That internal world, that spends it's energy, trying to change the external world.

The key to true fulfillment is the possession of virtues.  Virtues are little internal things that have a great impact on the external world.  The greatest virtue is love.  If you don't have love, stop everything your doing in life, and pursue it at all cost.  If you don't have love to give, your not really living anyway.

The second greatest virtue (in my opinion) is patience.  This is probably the one most lacking in our current condition.  We hate to wait.  We get mad when our Internet is slow, when there is traffic, or just standing in a long line.  When were not doing something we often feel like we are wasting our lives, or being unproductive.

You might of heard some of the world's Christian leaders say some stuff you would never find in the Bible.  "God helps those who help themselves", or "go until you get a no."  Sorry, but this is not how it works.  This is really the cry of those who are afraid to wait on God.  People want it now, and don't want to wait.  When there patience is tested, they create these nice sayings so we don't have to wait any longer.  Now, it's not really about being Spirit-led.  It is about doing what you want, and praying that God be in it.  It is not really about what God is doing.  It is about how God can fit into your plans.

To obtain all that God wants for you, you have to die to yourself.  This means living for God, and doing what He wills.  Unless you die to yourself, putting God's will first is mission impossible.  There are many who are following the Lord, but are still very much alive to themselves.  Those who claim love, but also claim "God hates fags."  Those who claim patience, but never feel God requires you to wait.  Those who claim humility, but "revenge is a dish best served cold."  Those who claim to trust God, as long as trust goes along with human reasoning.  This is the fruit of those who are really serving themselves.

Spend some time with God, and listen to what He wants.  Just a heads up, it might take some patience.
